Our Updated Children's Area

Our children's area has gotten a fresh new look.  We are loving the changes that have been made this past week!  Keep reading to find out all about our new look and see pictures.

Above is our children's are before it's fresh coat of pain and new decor.  It was pretty plain and the same oatmeal color as the rest of our library.  Definitely not a bad space, but we felt it could use some freshening up, so..

.. our assistant director went out on a remodeling mission.  We got paint and decor for the walls.  The teal paint is not only fun and bright, it's a great way to tie in the teal in our logo.

On Friday January 29th, the taping began in preparation for the next day's painting.  Saturday evening, with the help of some awesome volunteers, the teal went up on the main wall of books in the children's area, above the cabinets, and on the wall on which our "Wellman-Scofield Public Library" sign hangs.

As the paint went on, it was amazing to see the transformation of the walls. So bright, fun, and inviting!

Did we mention how much we love the new color?

The light gray on the window wall looks so fresh and clean, but there's more to come for that space this coming weekend.  You'll have to check back for more on that!

Tuesday we were able to start hanging our new wall decor.

Goodwill was a great place to pick up some gorgeous frames... okay, they weren't gorgeous at first.  In fact, many of the pictures in them were very dated or drab, but with a little spray paint they made for a great addition to our updated space.  The canvases were hand lettered with one of our favorite quotes, "children and made readers in the laps of their parents" by emilie buchwald; as well as, our pair of the perfect fairy tale beginning and end to perfectly bookend our display.

We added hooks in the large blue, green, and yellow frames to hold books.  Such a great way to showcase a few books.  These books will be continually switched out with new ones, so be sure to stop back often and see what cover art is on the wall.

By the end of Tuesday, things were looking quite different.

Thursday, we filled in the gaps and added the final frames to the walls.  We adore the final look and hope you do too!

The final display just pops with color and adds some vibrancy to the area.

Of course now that we're started, we're not stopping there!  We have many more changes coming to our library this year.
